Maison de la Perle forms a major component of the reform of the pearl farming sector which was begun in 2009; it has been on the wish-list of several successive governments and is now fully active.
This organization will provide a professional toolkit for those working in the field of pearl farming. Its principal missions are to enhance and add value to the cultured pearl industry in Tahiti by carrying out the functions of grading, classification, labeling and evaluation of the product, and to assist and support the commercialization of pearl products through the organization of sales events and by putting producers and traders in contact, without, however, becoming involved in any direct buying or reselling activity.
In addition, Maison de la Perle has been entrusted with two other missions, namely the promotion and legal protection of the Tahitian Pearl and pearl products in French Polynesia and abroad.
The temporary accommodation of Maison de la Perle is in Papeete, Rond-Point Jacques Chirac, next to the Paofai Gardens. New offices are being built on the site of the former Pitate building in Papeete, and these should be ready in 2013.
